Student Ministries: The Latest!

Uncool God...

Following Jesus is not cool. He demands your life, allegiance, and he expects his followers to trust his Word. Is all of that really worth it? Everyone has questions and doubts about God. From the most faithful followers of the faith to Christianity’s strongest critics: skepticism can be found at any point of someone’s faith journey. Join us as we discuss, investigate, and present five topics that seem uncool, not relevant, and unreliable found in Christianity. Starting Wednesday, March 7, students are invited to investigate their doubts and explore the tension of faith and truth. Each week will feature a different witness, including a theology professor, science teacher, a pastor, a former skeptic, and others.

March 7th: Introduction Opening Arguments
March 14th: The Bible…Ridiculous or Reliable? Witness: Dr. Stephen Moroney, PhD
March 21st: Science and Christianity…Where did I come from? Witness: Rachel Metzger
March 28th: Jesus Christ...Liar, Lunatic, or Lord? Witness: Mike Willmer
April 4th: Hell and Suffering…I thought God was good? Witness: Dan Southam
April 11th: Christians…Why are they so unloving? Witness: Adam Romans

When people meet Jesus

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012
Luke 5:17-26: Jesus Heals the Paralytic
What’s Keeping you from Jesus?

Three things keep us from Jesus.

1. The CROWD (5:19)
2. Your CONDITION (5:19)
3. The CRITICS (5:21)

Making it personal...

1. Identify your ROADBLOCKS

2. Get rid of your EXCUSES

3. Don’t hide your PAIN

4. Express faith and experience the miracle of FORGIVENESS

5. Live in a way that represents a CHANGED LIFE

Discussion Questions:

1. Who do you identify with? The skeptics, one of the friends, the paralytic or the crowd?

2. What are the roadblocks that keep people from Jesus?

3. What are the roadblocks that keep you from Jesus?

4. How can we know that Christianity is real?

Student Impact Christmas Party!

The Student Impact Christmas Party is right around the corner! Together we will have fun, eat food (can you say Pizza?), and have a white elephant gift exchange! Please remember to bring $3 plus a white elephant gift. What’s a white elephant? It’s a gift, new or like new, that’s considered extremely tacky. It gives everyone a chance to get rid of tacky gifts they’ve received–and gain a new one! It’s ok to re-gift an unwanted item, or to buy a new tacky inexpensive one just for the party. The goal is to choose wacky, funny or entertaining gifts. Wrap the gift nicely but leave no identifying markings on the presents. Part of the white elephant game is to guess who brought which present!
